Various Uses of Hot Spring

You will see the various demonstrations of hot springs on the street. Some might dip one's hand in the waters or some might take a picture in front. It will be the beginning of journey to meet the warmth of city.

Living Use

People supply water by ladling with a dipper, turning on a faucet or drawing from a well to wash clothes & dishes, clean up and/or for Yutanpo (a hot-water bottle).

Public Bath

It is not only for tourists but also for citizens to get relaxed and communicate with each other.

Gardening

Cyclamen and Orchid flowers are cultivated in a house heated by thermal steam; many of them are shipped to the metropolitan area.

Yunohana(Sinter)

Yunohana, one of Beppu's special products, is a crystal of mineral spring gushed out of Jigoku deposited on green clay. You can easily make an instant hot spring with these special bathing powders and enjoy a sulfur bath in the comfort of your own bath.

Jigokugama

It is the way of cooking by making use of thermal steam. Fresh food, such as eggs, vegetables and rice are steamed instantly in the hot vapor retaining nutrients; they slightly smell of hot spring. You can try them mainly at the lodgings of Kannawa.

Heating

It looks like an electric heater, but is a hot spring heater which makes the room as warm as spring without polluting the air. Also the floor heated by thermal steam is nice & warm to make you feel comfortable.

Geothermal Energy

In the prefecture we hold two power plants of Otake & Hachobaru of Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. and one of Private Beppu Suginoi Hotel. 60% of power consumption of Suginoi depends on geothermal energy.
