Kannawa is the very hot spring area of symbolic view above all Beppu Hatto with tremendous steam rising. It used to be called �gUkiyu, Ikariyu, Kinnoyu or Usagigarinoyu�h.
Netsunoyu (netsu means fever) was named after the effect to remove a fever. It used to be used as a drinking fountain which still remains its trace on the left as well as a kitchen and a laundry (called Shimonetsunoyu then) on the right side of the building.
The present bath constructed in 1977 is open to the public for free and still now frequented by visitors.
