	It is the birthplace of Beppu Hot Springs , same as Kannawa. The name of Hamawaki was originally derived from the springs which gushed naturally from the beach (Hama) as they say. In the beginning of Showa period a new ferroconcrete building was constructed as a result of merger of East and West Hamawaki Bath. In 1991 as a part of redevelopment project, a multipurpose sanatorium “Utopia Hamawaki” and a regular bath “Hamawaki Hot Spring” were constructed with an arched monument placed in front to memorialize the former bath.Quite rare for the municipal baths, it is opened till midnight (1am) which is very convenient for the locals 【address】 1-8-20 Hamawaki Beppu 【phone】 0977-25-8118
