Int'l Exchange City Agreement / 17 January 2013-16 January 2023

Geography

It is located in the north of the Jeju Special Autonomous-do of the southwest of Korean Peninsula in the Asian Continent, bounded on the south by Seogwipo, and the north facing Jeju Channel.

Climate

Characterized by the warm oceanic climate, it has four clear seasons. In summer the temperature goes up to 35.0℃, in winter it goes down to 0.6℃, and on the average 15.9℃. Compared with the other parts of Korea, it is temperate and there is no big difference in temperature throughout the year.

History

Jeju is the birthplace of the culture of Tamra with the remains of ancestors' spirit and wisdom. It was designated as a city in 1955, and celebrated 50 years anniversary in 2005.

Industry

The main industries are farming, fishery and tourism. It is a gateway city which holds the International Airport, the Port, hotels which have large rooms and many kinds of pavilion.

Process of making agreement

In the 21st century of the Asian Pacific period, in August 2002, a delegation of Beppu City visited Jeju-si to promote friendship, mutual understanding and partnership, as well as to develop each other as a base of international tourism and exchange. On 17 January 2003, the Jeju mayoral delegation composed of eight members visited Beppu to sign the agreement. On the expiration of the term the mayoral delegation came to our city again to continue our friendship progressively, and we signed the agreement on 21 January 2008. Beppu City Mayor and 6members visited Jeju-si City and signedthe agreement a ten-year extension on 24 January, 2013.
