| This hot spring is located in a quiet
mountain range surrounded by forest that runs along the Shibaseki
River. The whistling of wind, the babbling of the creek and
the chirping of birds drown out all other sounds, providing
bathers with a relaxing environment in which to take dips in
many varieties of baths. In addition to rich, natural scenery,
this hot spring also contains a nature trail through the forest
for visitors to enjoy. Along with Kannawa and Myoban, Shibaseki
Hot Spring is designated as a National Health Care and National
Medical Care hot spring, and is additionally designated as a
Peaceful Contact hot spring due to its highly recuperative effects
and its bountiful natural beauty. |

| Located in the northern tip of Beppu,
this hot spring once thrived as a health resort for weary travelers
due to its role as the northern entrance to Beppu and a stopping
point on the way to Buzen Kokura. The area also includes the
Hamada hot spring--a favored resting spot by the locals--and the
Beppu Seaside Sand Baths, which are located on one of Oita's
rare sand beaches and are covered by a movable roof that utilizes
heat generated from the hot spring welling up through the sand.
The sound of the sea and the beautiful landscape are hallmarks
of Beppu. |
