in thanksgiving for Beppu's abundant hot springs. It is Beppu's

This lake is surrounded by the Tsurumi mountains. Legend says that a dancer of the Tsurumi shrine lived near the lake in the Heian period.
15,000 irises of 80 different kinds blossom around the lake, which provide a scene of stunning mysterious beauty. |

| This gorge is counted as one of the most beautiful 100 sceneries in Kyusyu, and the course is 12 km long from Tsubaki in Beppu city to Hazama town. This place is cooler than the city side, and good for summering. You can enjoy the lottery and get mementoes at the both Tsubaki and Saruwatari festival sites on the day. |
